Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using CheapCars.
Search & Listings
Is CheapCars free?
Yes. Search is free, no account required. Sign in to save vehicles and use collaborative features.
Where do the listings come from?
Dealer inventory is pulled automatically from local dealerships. You can also clip listings from Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, AutoTrader, CarGurus, Cars.com, CarMax, and Carvana using the Chrome extension.
What does the deal score mean?
It’s a rating based on the asking price vs. market average, factored with mileage and how long the vehicle has been listed. Green means priced below market.
Why only cars under $30K?
CheapCars is built for people shopping for affordable, practical vehicles. We focus on the under-$30K market to keep results relevant.
Shared Lists & Collaboration
How do shared lists work?
Create a list, add vehicles, then invite others by sharing a link or adding them directly. Everyone on the list can add vehicles, comment, vote, and see the full collection.
Can others see my private notes?
No. Private notes are visible only to you. Comments are shared with everyone on the list.
How does voting work?
Thumbs up or thumbs down on any vehicle. Everyone’s votes are visible so you can see where the group agrees.
What are ranked-choice polls?
When you’re down to a few finalists, any owner or collaborator can create a poll. Everyone ranks their picks, and the winner is determined by instant-runoff voting — the fairest way to pick a group favorite.
Can I remove someone from my list?
Yes, list owners can remove members at any time.
Privacy & Security
Do I need an account?
Not to search. You need a free account to save vehicles, create lists, and use collaborative features.
Is my data shared with dealers?
No. We don’t share your personal information with dealerships or third parties.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.
Chrome Extension
Which sites does the extension support?
Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, AutoTrader, CarGurus, Cars.com, CarMax, and Carvana.
Is the extension safe?
Yes. It only activates on supported car listing sites, reads listing data from the page, and sends it to your CheapCars account. No tracking, no ads.
