What We Collect
The CheapCars Car Clipper browser extension extracts vehicle listing data (make, model, year, price, mileage, URL, and images) from car marketplace pages you are actively viewing. This data is only extracted when you interact with the extension on a supported site.
What Is Sent to Our Servers
When you clip a listing, the extracted vehicle data is sent to findacheapcar.com and stored in your authenticated CheapCars account. This allows you to view, compare, and manage your clipped listings across devices.
What Stays on Your Device
Authentication tokens are stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local. A cache of recent clips and the last extraction result are also stored locally. None of this local data is transmitted to third parties.
Website-to-Extension Communication
The findacheapcar.com website communicates with the extension during sign-in to pass authentication tokens. No browsing data flows from the extension to the website through this channel.
No Third-Party Data Sharing
CheapCars does not sell, share, or transmit your data or browsing activity to any third party.
Extension Permissions
- activeTab — Access the current tab URL to determine which site parser to use.
- scripting — Inject content extraction scripts to read vehicle listing data from the page.
- storage — Persist authentication tokens and recent clip cache locally.
- Host permission (findacheapcar.com) — Communicate with the CheapCars API to save clipped listings and handle authentication.
Data Retention
Clipped listings are stored in your account until you delete them. Local cache is cleared when you uninstall the extension.
Your Rights
You can delete all your clipped listings from your CheapCars account at any time. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data.
